Andreu Vilasís

Biographical Profile

Born in Barcelona in 1934, he undertakes far-reaching artistic studies (drawing, painting, enamelling, jewellery-making, etc.) at his hometown’s Llotja and Massana schools.

In 1959, he establishes his own studio in Barcelona, where his works are regularly displayed since. In 1970, he is appointed Professor, and given the task of creating the Enamelling department at Barcelona’s "Llotja" School of Plastic Arts and Drawing, of which he has now been the Director since 1989.

Andreu Vilasís has represented his country in the most important international meetings on Artistic and Industrial Enamel as well as in the greatest exhibitions, whether as member of the jury, exhibitor, speaker or professor, in Cobourg (Germany), Paris and Limoges (France), Tokyo (Japan), Geneva (Switzerland), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Moscow (Russia), etc.

His investigative research and document compilation work, his respect for Art and Enamel in particular have made Andreu Vilasís one of the leading world specialists in this discipline. He is very much in demand on an international level, especially for his educational qualities.

It is with education in mind that he undertook historical and technical studies now materialized through articles and books such as "El Arte de Esmaltar" (The Art of Enamelling, 1984) or "La Miniatura" (Miniature, 1989) and through the creation and direction of the periodical "L’Esmalt" (Enamel, since 1988).

His plastic work is on display in a number of Museums in Spain as well as abroad and also liberally dispersed in private collections around the world.

Activities

1992: Creation and direction of the Municipal Museum for the Contemporary Art of Enamelling (Torre Vella), Salou (Tarragonna). ACCA Award 1992.

1993: Award recipient of "Artistic and Technical Work". International Exhibition of Contemporary Enamel at the Museum of Decorative Arts, Moscow (Russia). Exhibitor at the Ičre Rencontre Internationale de l’Émail, Morez (France). Member of the International Committee for the Preservation of Enamelling Techniques in France and Switzerland.

1994: Exhibitor at the Xth International Meeting of Enamellers, Vińa del Mar (Chile).
